गोऽ gotra, vulg. gotr, and H. गोतरgotar, s.m. Race, family, etc. (see got):—gotraja, vulg. gotraj, adj. & s.m. (f. -ā), Born in the same family, related;—a relation, kinsman, clansman (in law the term is nearly equivalent to the 'Gentile' of Roman law, and is applied to kindred of the same general family, who are connected by offerings of food and water; hence it is opposed to the bandhuor cognate kin, who do not partake in the offerings to the common ancestors):—gotra-hatyā, s.f. A striking or killing a person of one's own gotra.
