गोतम gotama, vulg. gotam, and H. गौतम gautam, s.m. Name of a celebrated Rishi, author of several hymns of the Vedas;—name of a sage, the founder of the Nyāya philosophy:—gautamāraṇya (˚ma+ar˚), s.m. The forest in Central India in which Gotam Rishi practised his austerities:—gautam-nārī, s.f. An epithet of Ahalyāthe wife of Gotam Rishi (she was turned into stone by her husband for her adultery with Indra).
