िवराट् vi-rāṭ(base vi-rāj, q.v.), s.m. Splendour, beauty;—the first progeny of Brahmā; the producer of the first Manu or Svāyambhuva (who was the secondary framer of the visible universe);—`ruler of the various forms of bodies,' a name of Intellect located in and ruling over the collective aggregate of bodies; embodied spirit:—virāṭ, or virāṭ-dehor dehī(prop. virāḍ-deh, etc.), or virāṭ-rūp (prop. virāḍ-rūp), or virāṭ-svarūp, adj. 'Having the body of Virāṭ,' or 'consisting of Virāj,' epithets of the Supreme Being (as expanded and explicated in the creation, or as developed and exhibited in the radiance and glory of the Universal system);—monstrous, huge, enormous, gigantic.
