muḥaqqiq (act. part. of حقّق , ii of (and syn. with) حقّ 'to render suitable to the requirements of truth, or justice, or right,' etc.), part. adj. & s.m. Proving to be true, verifying, confirming; investigating the truth; inquisitive;—one who knows or regards as true; a verifier, an affirmer, a confirmer;—an asserter or teacher of truth, a philosopher; a writer (on some special subject), an authority (on); a critical judge (in matters of literature, etc.);—muḥaqqaq (pass. part. of the same verb), part. Ascertained, confirmed, verified, authenticated, certified, known to be true; decided, positive;—sound, compact, orderly (speech, or language); firmly or compactly woven (cloth).
