करण karaṇ, and H. करन karan, s.m. Making, doing; committing (a crime); causing, producing, effecting, accomplishing:—an action, act, deed; business, occupation (=karma); means of action, instrument; an expedient; instrumentality; (in Gram.) the instrumental case;—cause, motive, reason, etc. (=kāraṇ, q.v.); an organ of sense;—an astronomical division of time (of which there are eleven, seven movable and four fixed, and two of which are equal to a lunar day):—karaṇ-vāćak saṅgyā, s.f.
