शक śaka, vulg. śak, s.m. A sovereign or prince who gives his name to an era (esp. applied to Śālivāhan);—an era, epoch (esp. that of the monarch Śālivāhan, commencing 76 or 78 years after the Christian era);—name of a particular tribe or race of people (regarded by some as the followers or the descendants of Śālivāhan):—śakābda (˚ka+ab˚), s.m.
