جوت

जोत jot, जोित joti [S. ज्योित, or ƭोत+इका, rt. ƭुत् ], s.f. Light, brightness, brilliancy, lustre, splendour; sunshine, sunbeam; a ray of light; flame of a candle or lamp; a light, a lamp;—a glance of the eye, the faculty of seeing, vision, sight; (met.), soul, spirit:—jot-battīkarnā, jot ćaṛhānā, v.n. To light a lamp (in a temple), to place a lighted lamp (before an idol):—jot-sarup (S. jyotis+swarūp), adj. Luminous, radiant, resplendent, effulgent, glorious; an epithet of the Deity:—jot-mān, adj.=jot-sarūp, q.v.
