tayammum[inf. n. v of ام 'to betake oneself (to)'], s.m. lit. 'Betaking oneself to dust, to wipe the face and hands and arms therewith, for prayer'; purifying or rubbing the hands, face, and other parts of the body before prayer, with sand or dust, where water cannot be had.
