नारायण nārāyaṇa, vulg. nārāyaṇ(nara, 'man,' or nāra, 'water'+ayana, 'abode'), s.m. A name of Vishṇu (considered as the first of living beings, and the dwelling-place of mortals; or as the being who existed before all worlds, and moved on the waters of creation):—nārāyaṇ-kshetr, s.m. A term applied to the ground on the banks of the Ganges for a distance of four cubits from the water:—nārāyaṇ-tail, s.m. A sort of oil (expressed from various plants) of great reputed efficacy in medicine:—sat nārāyaṇ, The true Nārāyaṇ, the true God.
