alāiyat (for A. صلاحیة , inf. n. of صلح 'to be good,' etc.), s.f. Goodness, rectitude, integrity, probity, honesty; virtue, chastity; sanctity;—welfare, well-being, prosperity;—mildness, gentleness;—ability, capability, fitness, worth;—a deposition; a report or return (made by the police) on the state of a district:—alāiyat-bahī, s.f. A diary (kept in police and revenue offices) of the condition or prosperity of a district:—alāiyat likhnā(-kī), To make a (police) report on the state of a district; to keep a register of travellers in a sarā`c, etc.
