दगार् ु durgā, s.f. 'The inaccessible goddess,' name of the daughter of Hima-vat and wife of Śiva (also called Umā, Bhavānī, Pārvatī, etc.; the mother of Kārtikeya and Ganeśa: in her character of Durgā, she is a goddess of terrific form and irascible temper, particularly worshipped by the Bangālīs at the Durgā-pūjāfestival);—a Hindūbook containing the narration of the goddess Durgā;—(met.), a word:—durgā-pūjā, s.f.
