डांड, डाण्ड ḍāṅḍ[Prk. दंडो; S. दण्डः], s.m. A stick, staff, cudgel, pole; a measure of length, a pole of four to six cubits; a particular measure of time, about twenty-four minutes;—an oar; the back-bone; a line;—punishment, amercement, fine, forfeit; retaliation, revenge;—high land (not culturable for lack of water; hence), sterile land:—ḍāṅḍbharnā, To pay a fine, undergo a penalty or punishment, to suffer:—ḍāṅḍ-dhurrā, s.m. Village boundary:—ḍāṅḍlagānā, To ply an oar, to row:—ḍāṅḍlenā(-se), To take a fine (from), to fine, amerce, punish; to take revenge, to retaliate:—ḍāṅḍmārnā= ḍāṅḍlagānā, q.v.
