छटना ु ćhuṭnā[ćhuṭ˚= Prk. छट्ट ु (इ)=S. छट्य ु (ते), pass. of rt. छट् ु], v.n. To be set free, be liberated, be discharged, be acquitted; to be redeemed (a pledge); to be let go; to get loose; to be loose; to be dishevelled (the hair); to escape (from); to slip (from); to be adrift; to be got rid of, to be separated (from); to be left, be abandoned; to be left out, be omitted; to be left off, be given up, be relinquished; to be let off, be discharged, to go off (a gun); to be free with (the hands), use (the hands) freely (in striking); to cease, stop; to issue, to come out or forth (as blood, life, etc.), to spout, to shoot forth; to come out or off (as colour from cloth, etc.); to begin to move, be set in motion (as sand, or a train, etc.), to start:—ćhuṭ-jānā, v.n.=ćhuṭnā.
