चावल ćāwal[for ćāṅwal= S. तण्डलं ु; cf. ćāćā, ćhāć, etc.], s.m. Rice cleared of the husk and not cooked (when boiled it is termed bhāt);—the weight of a grain of rice, one-eighth of a rattī, q.v.:—ćāwal ćabwānā(-se), To make (one) chew rice (over which an incantation has been pronounced: this is done in the case of persons suspected of stealing, it being believed that the thief will be discovered by blood issuing from his mouth, or by a deficiency of saliva being produced.
