चातुर ćātur, adj. Relating to four:—ćātur-varṇya, adj. Suited to the four tribes or castes; belonging to the four castes;—s.m. The aggregate of the four original castes, viz. the Brāhman, Kshatriya, Vaiśya, and Śūdra (=ćātur-varṇ):—ćātur-vaidyā, adj. & s.m. Versed in or familiar with the four Vedas;—one so versed (=ćaube, q.v.);—knowledge of the four Vedas.
