pe, प pa, the third letter of the Hindūstānīand Persian alphabets, and the twenty-first consonant of the Nāgarī alphabet,—the first letter of the fifth or labial class,—having the sound of the English p: . It does not occur in the Arabic alphabet; but the letter feis substituted for it in Persian words adopted into the Arabic language, thus fārsīfor pārsī):.
