waswās (inf. n. of وسوس 'to inspire, to suggest,' etc.), s.m. Anything suggested to the mind; an evil inspiration, a temptation of the devil;—distraction of mind;—doubt, suspicion; suspense; hesitation, apprehension, dread, perplexity; scrupulousness; fluctuation (of mind), wavering;—superstition.
