हलदी haldī[Prk. हलƧी, or हलƧा; S. हिरिा], s.f. Turmeric, Curcuma longa:—haldī, s.f., or haldī ćaṛhānā, s.m. Name of a marriageceremony in which the bride and bridegroom are anointed with turmeric (i.q. hald-hāt, q.v.):—haldīlagā-ke baiṭhnā, 'To apply haldī(to the hands, etc.) and sit down'; to play the bride, or the grand lady; to give oneself airs, to presume a great deal:—haldīlagīna phaṭkarī, 'No outlay for turmeric or alum'; without cost;—net gain or profit:—āṅbīhaldī, or jaṅglīhaldī, s.f. Curcumœ zedoariœ radix, the long zedoary.
