muṣt̤afā(pass. part. of اصطفی 'to choose,' etc., viii of صفا (for صفو ) 'to take the best or choice part' (of)), part. adj. Chosen, elected;—s.m. 'The chosen one, the elect, or favourite' (of God), a name or title of Muḥammad;—a proper name.
