mash’al, vulg. mashāl (n. of place fr. شعل 'to burn,' etc.), s.f. A sort of cresset; a torch, flambeau;—a lantern:—mash’al jalānā, To light a torch:—mash’al dikhānā, To show a torch, to hold a torch before or near (a person); to carry a lighted torch before (a person):—mash’al-firoz, s.m. Torch-lighter.
