मास māsa, vulg. mās, s.m. The moon (cf. Pers. māh);—a month, the twelith part of the Hindūyear (usually, a lunar month consists of thirty Tithis; there may be also a solar month, equal to the sun's passage through a sign of the zodiac; a Sāvanamonth, consisting of thirty risings and settings of the sun; a Nakshatramonth, regulated by the lunar asterisms, and a Bārhaspatyamonth, depending on the motions of the planet Jupiter;—the lunar month, being of two kinds as reckoned from the new or full moon, completes six modes of monthly computation):—māsānt (˚sa+an˚), s.m. The last day of the (solar or lunar) month, the day of new moon:—mās-kabār, s.m. The last day of a month;—a monthly statement or abstract (of cases decided in a court, etc.;—according to Shakespear, this word is corr. fr. the Portuguese mes-acobar; but, more prob., it is a corr. of māsik-wār, or mās-kāwār):—mās-nimās, s.m. Interest added to capital and subject to compound interest:—mās-vr̤iddhi, s.f. An intercalary month;—monthly interest.
