लआमी lakshmī, s.f. Good fortune, good-luck, fortune, prosperity; wealth, riches; success, happiness; beauty, grace, loveliness, charm, splendour;—royal power, dominion; superhuman power;—a pearl;—name of the goddess of fortune and beauty (she is regarded as the wife of Vishṇu or Nārāyaṇ, and is one of the principal female deities of the Hindūs; she is also called Padmā, Kamalāand Śrī, and is supposed to be the Ceres of the ancients);—an epithet of Sītā, the wife of Rāma:—lakshmī-pati, s.m. 'The husband or lord of Lakshmīor Fortune,' a name of Vishṇu; lord or possessor of fortune or wealth, a wealthy man:—lakshmī-pūjā, s.f. 'The worship of Lakshmī,' name of a festival on the fifteenth day in the dark half of the month Kārtik, Sept.-Oct.
