كربلا

karbalā, s.m. Name of a place in ‘irāq, where Husain, the younger son of 'Alī, was killed and buried; (in India) a Mohammadan shrine or burying-place; the place where the taziya (q.v.) is buried;—a place where anything (esp. water) is scarce.
