qaiyūm (v.n. fr. قوم 'to stand'), adj. Permanent, lasting; everlasting; stable, fixed, steady;—an epithet of the deity.ك kāf (called kāf-ě-tāzī, or kāf-ě-’arabī, 'the Arabic kāf,' to distinguish it from گ gāf, called kāf-ě-’ajamī, 'the Persian kāf), is thetwenty-eighth letter of the Hindūstānīalphabet (the twenty-fifth of the Persian, and the twentysecond of the Arabic), and corresponds to क ka, the first consonant of the Nāgarī alphabet. Its sound is that of the English k. Its numerical value is 20:—ka-kār, s.m. The letter or sound ka:—ka-kār varg, or ka-varg, s.m. (in HindīGram.), The consonants of the क ka, or guttural class (viz. क, ख, ग, घ, ङ), the guttural consonants collectively.
