’ain, s.m. The eye; sight; source, fount, fountain; udder (of an animal); the choice, the best, the very essence (of a thing), the thing itself; money, cash; gold; the sun; the letter ’ain (the fourteenth of the Arabic, and twenty-fourth of the Urdū alphabet):—adj. Very, exact, precise, real, intrinsic, just:—’aingain, adj. (As) 'the letters ’ainand gain,' but slightly different, very much alike;—squinteyed;—having a cataract:—’ainu’l-māl, s.m.
