’iyār, vulg. ’ayār (inf. n. of عایر 'to measure, compare,' etc., iii of عیر 'to come and go, to move to and fro'), s.m. A standard (of measure, weight, or fineness); mark, proof, test, touchstone, assay.
Origin: Arabic
