`arafa, vulg. `arfa (for A. عرفة , v.n. fr. عرف 'to know,' etc.), s.m. A vigil, wake (esp. that of the night preceding the `īdu`-uhạ̄, the `īdu`l-fitr, and the shab-barāt):—`arafa karnā, v.n. To keep a vigil, to offer oblations of sweetmeats, etc. on a day of vigil (at the tomb of a deceased relative).
