shān (for شأن ), s.f. Thing, affair, business; state, condition, case (syn. ḥāl); quality, property, nature, constitution, disposition; degree, importance, eminence; rank, dignity, state, pomp, grandeur, glory; radiance, lustre:—shān-ćoṭṭā, s.m. One who imitates the importance, or grandeur, or dress, etc. (of another):—shān-dār, adj. & s.m. Stately, grand, pompous, splendid;—a person of state and dignity, a man of rank:—shān dikhāna (apnī), To make a display:—shān-shaukatorshān-oshaukat, s.f. Great state, pomp, splendour, magnificence.
