ःवर् svar, vulg. sūr, sur, s.m. The sun; heaven, paradise; the sky; the space between the sun and the polar star (the region of the planets and constellations); a mystical word pronounced after Om and before the Gāyatrīby every Brāhman commencing his daily prayers (it denotes the space between the sun and the polar star, spoken ofabove);—radiance, splendour:—svar-bhānu, s.m. Name of Rāhu or the personified ascending node:—svar-beśya or svar-besyā, s.f.=svar-veśyā, q.v.:—svar-gati, s.f. and svar-gaman, s.m. Going to heaven, future felicity; death:—svar-gaṅgā, s.f. The celestial Ganges; the galaxy:—svar-lok, s.m. The celestial regions, heaven; the heavenly state; the abode of heaven, paradise:—svarmadhya, s.m. The central point of the sky, the zenith:—svar-nadī, s.f. The river of heaven (=svar-gaṅgā):—svar-baidya, s.m. 'Physician of heaven'; an epithet of either of the two Aśvins (q.v.):—svar-veśyā, s.f.
