ستان

stān[Pehl. śtān; Zend śtāna; S. ःथान], s.m. Place, situation, station, stall (used as an affix to nouns ending in a vowel, e.g. bo-stān, 'place of fragrance,' 'flower-garden';—hindū-stān, India: if the subst. terminate in a consonant, the affix takes the form istān, e.g. reg-istān, 'place of sand,' 'a desert';—gulistān, 'place of roses,' 'rose-garden').
