jarīb, s.f. A measuring chain (of 20 gaṭṭās or 60 Hindūstānīyards=55 English yards); a land measure (one square jarīb = one standard bīghā); a corn measure of 384 mudds or about 768 lbs.:—jarīb pheṅknā, jarīb ḍālnā, v.n. 'To throw the jarīb'; to measure or survey with the chain:—jarīb karnā, v.t. To make a survey (of land):—jarīb-kash, s.m. lit. 'Drawer of a measuring chain'; a measurer (of land), a surveyor:—jarīb-kashī, s.m. Measurement or mensuration (of land); the office of a landsurveyor.
