जात jāt[S. जाितः], s.f. Birth, production; high or good birth, respectability, rank; family, race, lineage; tribe, caste, sect, class; nature, kind, sort, species, genus;—a votive offering (in the language of Hindūwomen):—jāt-āndhā(or jātyandha, i.e. jāti+andha), adj. Blind from birth, born blind:—jāt-birādarī, s.f. Caste and kinsfolk, brotherhood, fraternity, etc.=birādarī, q.v.:—jāt-bhā`ī(or jāti-bhā`ī), s.m.
