भूिम bhūmi, & H. भूम bhūm, s.f. The earth, the world; earth, ground, soil, land, region, country (see bhū); place, site; estate, domain; room; receptacle (as of confidence, etc.); (in Geom.) base of a triangle, or other figure; (in Astron.) the symbol for one:—bhūm bhā`ī, s.m. One who is invested by a proprietor with a portion of land which he must not dispose of:—bhūm-tale, adj. Underground, subterranean:—bhūmi-ja, adj. & s.m. Born of, or on, the earth, earth-born; sprung from the ground; name of a low caste of Hindūs; the planet Mars; hell:—bhūmi-jā, s.f. An epithet of Sītā:—bhūm-ćampak, s.m. The plant Kœmpferia rotunda; a kindof firework like the flower of that plant:—bhūmi-dār, s.m. Landholder, headman or chief:—bhūmi-dāhā, adj.
