baqar, vulg. baqra, s.m.f. Ox, bull; cow:—baqar-`īd, s.m. A festival held, by Moḥammadans, on the tenth of the month ẕī-ḥijja, in commemoration of Abraham's readiness to sacrifice his son (Isaac, according to the Shī`as, but Ishmael, according to the Mohammadans of the Sunnīsect. The Qor`ān, it may be observed, does not mention the name of the son:—syn. `īdu`ẓ-ẓuḥā).
