बार bār[Zend vār; S. वार], s.f. Time, turn; occasion, opportunity; delay; (and, in Hindī) s.m. Day of the week; Saturday;—prohibition, obstacle, obstruction, etc.; (in Hindī and Urdū), gate, door, door-way, threshold, entrance; admission, admittance; permission; (in Urdūand Persian), sitting of a sovereign, etc. to give audience, court or levée (cf. dar-bār), tribunal, assembly, convention, congress;—a suffixforming Persian 'nouns of multitude,' e.g. sang-bār, jo`e-bār, q.q.v.:—bār-bār, adv. Time after time, again and again, repeatedly; constantly, every moment; several times, often (=ka`ībār);—bārbār-karke, adv. After several times or turns:—bār-ě-ḵẖāṣṣ, s.m.
