awwal (rt. وٲل ), adj. First, prior, foremost, chief, greatest, highest, best, excellent;—s.m. The first or earlier part, beginning;—adv. At first, in the beginning, in the first place or instance:—awwal darje-kā, adj. First class, first rate:—awwal rahnā, To remain or stand first in order; to maintain the first place:—awwal-se āḵẖir-tak, adv. From beginning to end, from first to last throughout:—awwal manzil, s.f. lit.'First stage'; interment, obsequies;—awwal manzil pahuṅćānā, v.t. To perform (one's) obsequies, to bury.
