امیر

amīr (rt. امر 'to command'), s.m. Commander, governor, lord, prince, noble, chief; a person of rank or distinction; a gentleman:—amīru`l-umarā, s.m. Chief of the nobles; lord of lords (a title given by Eastern princes to their prime ministers):—amīru`lbaḥr, s.m. The commander of the fleet, an admiral:—amīr-zāda, adj. (f. -ī) Of noble birth;—s.m. One of noble birth or family; a king's son, a prince;—amīr-zādī, s.f. Princess:—amīr-i-kabīr, s.m.=amīru`l-umarā, q.v.:—amīru`l-mūminīn, s.m.
