iẓāfat [for A. اضافة , inf. n. iv of ضیف 'to incline' (to)], s.f. Lit. 'the annexation'; (in Gram.), prefixing a noun to a noun, so that the former governs the latter in the genitive case (e.g. g̠ulām-i-Zaid, 'the slave of Zaid'); the connection of a noun soprefixed with its complement; the short vowel kasra between two nouns in the formation of the genitive case, or on the addition of an adjective; addition, adjunct, etc.=iẓāfa, q.v.
