ishmām [inf. n. iv of شمّ 'to smell'], s.m. Diffusing odour, shedding perfume; (Gram.) giving to a quiescent consonant a slight sound or smack of ẓamma or kasra, but so as not to lengthen the syllable or make an additionable syllable, as in ḵẖẉesh.
