استغفار

istig̠fār[inf. n. x of غفر 'to pardon'], s.m. Asking pardon, begging mercy; craving grace; deprecating; deprecation; the (Mohamadan's) prayer for defence against the evil spirit (Shait̤ān); mercy; deliverance:—istig̠fār karnā, To seek pardon or forgiveness of God; to crave mercy; to deprecate.
