आना ānā[S. आणकः, or अणकः, 'inferior, small'; rt. अण् ], s.m. A copper coin, the sixteenth part of a rupee; a measure of land equal to 1⁄640th of an acre; a sixteenth part or share in a business or property. (The term ānāis also used in estimating quality, character, and ability,—much as the expression 'Sixteen ounces to the pound' is used in England;—thus, a man is said to be about 12 ānās—i.e. as not quite up to the mark):—ānā-kar, s.m. A fee or levy of one anna per rupee.
