āstān,[ā+Pehl. stān, Zend stāna, S. ःथान] s.m. Threshold; door, entrance; entrance to a shrine; abode of a faqīror holy man:—āstān-bos, s.m. Lit. 'Kissing of the threshold'; one who pays a visit to a superior:—āstān- (āstāna-) bosī, s.f. Kissing the threshold; paying respects:—āstāna-bosīkarnā, To pay (one's) respects; to make obeisance.
