गढ़ी gaṛhī[S. गड+इका], s.f. A small fort; a castle; a village fortification of mud flanked with towers (under former governments there was scarcely a village in India without its gaṛhī):—gaṛhī-band, s.m. A description of mu’āfītenure, in Bundelkhand, by which lands are held on paying a stipulated yearly tribute (but not one-fifth the amount which ought to be paid):—gaṛhīfatḥkarnā, To take a fort, etc. (=gaṛh jītnā, q.v.).
