पवन pavan, and H. पौन paun, s.m.f. The act of purifying, purification; winnowing; 'the purifier,' wind, air; the Regent of the winds and of the north-west quarter; the wind of the body; the breath of life;—a householder's sacred fire;—spell, charm; the evil spirits appointed by a wizard or magician to injure any one:—pavan-āhār, s.m. Taking the air, walking or riding for diversion or exercise (=hawākhānā):—pavanāhat (˚na+āh˚), adj. 'Windstruck,' rheumatic:—paun-bān, s.m.=pavanvān, q.v.:—pavan-pānī, or paun-pānī, s.m. 'Wind and water,' climate (=āb o hawā):—paun-pariććhā, s.f. Ascertaining the direction of the wind:—paun-ćakkī, s.f. A wind-mill (=hawā-ćakkī):—pavan-sūt, or paun-sūt, s.m.=pavan-kāpūt, s.m. The son of Rāvaṇ, the ape Hanumān:—pavan-kumār, s.m.=pavan-kāpūt:—paun mārnā, v.t. To enchant; to injure by the aid of malignant spirits:—pavan-vān, s.m.
