walāyat, or wilāyat (for A. ولایة , inf. n. of وَلِیَ 'to be master (of),' etc.), s.f. Being master of, possessing, governing, controlling, etc.;—possession, control, government, jurisdiction, dominion, sovereignty, power, authority; guardianship (of a minor);—dominion, realm, province, government; an inhabited country, a region; a foreign country (in India usually applied to England, Europe, China, Persia, etc.);—friendship; union (esp. with the Deity); sanctity;—the office or dignity of a walīor saint, sainthood, saintship;—prophecy:—wilāyat pānā, To attain to the rank or dignity of a saint:—wilāyat-zā, adj. Born or produced in England or Europe, etc.; English; European:—walāyat-kāistěḥqāq, s.m. Right of guardianship:—wilāyat-kīdāk, s.f. The English mail:—sāḥib-ě-walāyat, s.m. A saint.
