ḥaram (v.n. fr. حرم 'to prohibit'), adj. Forbidden; sacred;—s.m. The sacred territory of Mecca; the temple of Mecca, or the court of the temple; a sanctuary;—s.f. A wife; a concubine, a female slave; any woman under covert; a daughter;—women's apartments, seraglio, harem:—ḥaram-sarā, s.m. Women's apartments, etc. (=ḥaram):—ḥaram-kājanā, adj. & s.m. Base-born;—a bastard (=ḥarāmzāda).
