आल āl [S. आर? but cf. S. alakta], s.f. Name of a tree from the root of which a red dye is prepared, Morinda citrifolia (the ordinary Sanskrit name of the tree is aćyut, which, in Hindī, is contracted to ać);—a pumpkin (cf. S. alābū); a green stalk of onion:—āl-kārang, s.m. Colour extracted from the āl tree (called also ālīrang; see ālī).
