`ālim (act. part. of علم 'to know,' etc.), adj. & s.m. Knowing, learned, intelligent, wise, sage;—a learned man, a doctor (of law, or religion, etc.), one versed in science and literature:—`ālimu`l-g̠aib, or `ālim-ě-g̠aib, adj. & s.m. Prescient, knowing the past and the future, or the visible and the invisible; omniscient;—the One who knows the visible and the invisible, the Omniscient.
