dāl द da: The eleventh letter of the Urdū or Hindūstānīalphabet (called dāl-ě-muhmala); and the eighteenth consonant of the Nāgarī alphabet,—the third letter of the ta-vargor dental class. Its sound is much softer and more dental than that of the English d.
