कािलदास kālidās (kālī+dāsa, 'the slave of Kālīor Durgā'), s.m. Name of a celebrated Hindūpoet (the Shakespeare of India; author of the Śakuntalā,Vikramorvaśī, Meghadūta, Raghu-vaṅśa, Nalodaya, and other poems: he was one of the nine poets or gems of Vikramāditya's court, and is supposed to have flourished in the century preceding the Christian era); a proper name.
